Thoughts Of A
Volunteer Fireman

We are drawm to it
Like moths to a flame
Don't know the reason
Can't feel the rain
We are the few
Against the impossible odds
But we don't back down
We just do our job
We look forward to the call
We look forward to going home
We stand proud and we stand tall
There's never far for us to roam
We don't always fight fire
Sometimes it's a wreck
But we always perspire
On the back of our necks
We don't give in
And call it a day
We are the bravest men
Because we don't get paid

-- Eric Havard
Fireman's Prayer

When I am called to duty, God,
Where ever flames may rage
Give me the strength to save some life,
Whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child
Before it is too late;
Or save an older person from
The horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert,
And hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently
To put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling and
To give the best in me;
To guard my every neighbor and
Protect his property
And if, according to your will
I have to give my life;
Please bless with your protecting hand
My children and my wife.
